Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was a famous German artist associated with the Expressionists and the Die Brücke or The Bridge art movements. He is best known for his bold and expressive portraits, figure groups, landscapes and cityscapes. Mini biography: Born Ernst Ludwig Kirchner on the 6th of May, 1880 in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany. His mother was Maria Elise and his father Ernst Kirchner was a chemical engineer. The artist died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 15th of June, 1938 in Davos, Switzerland at the age of 58. Kirchner is buried at the Waldfriedhof Cemetery, Davos in Switzerland.
