Arnold Bocklin

Arnold Böcklin was a famous Swiss painter associated with the Symbolist art movement. He is best known for his works like the Isle of the Dead painting which he did five different versions of. Famous Arnold Böcklin artworks include “Isle of the Dead (Die Toteninsel)“, “The Island of Life (Die Lebensinsel)”, “Moonlit Landscape”, “Self-Portrait with Death Playing the Fiddle”, “Mourning under the Cross”, “The Elysian Fields”, “Odysseus and Polyphemus”, “The Sanctuary of Hercules”, “Roger Freeing Angelica” and “Villa by the Sea”.

Mini biography: Born Arnold Böcklin on the 16th of October, 1827 in Basel, Switzerland. So he is a famous Libra artist born in October. His mother was Ursula Lippe and his father Christian Frederick Böcklin was a silk trader. Bocklin married Angela Rosa Lorenza Pascucci in 1853 and they had fourteen children together with five dying in childhood. The artist died on the 16th of January, 1901 in Fiesole, Florence, Tuscany, Italy at the age of 73. Böcklin is buried at the Cimitero Evangelico agli Allori, Florence, Italy.
